It is a product oriented to maximize the use of the proxy-cache technology. As a result of this an effective increase of the bandwidth is obtained that goes between 20% and 50%.
How it works?
As we were said previously this one product was designed to take full advantages of the proxy-cache technology reducing its disadvantages to zero. A proxy-cache is a system where to each order (GET data) of the HTTP protocol that is made in Internet, instead of directly making it on the server to whom the order is asked for, this order becomes the server proxy-cache, which is in charge to solve the request, and stores that order, so that in dipper of which it becomes to him to solicit that same information does not have to go to look for it in Internet, because it already has stored in his disk (its cache). This technology has the disadvantage of which want to make the requests of information of the proxy-server instead of the real site in Internet, must configure the navigators to do that, this minds that all the users must do this. With the consequence lost of benefits in case that the users do not want to do it and in addition in case of making it and that the proxy-server goes down, those users that they have configured its navigator to call to the proxy-server they wouldn’t continue navigate in Internet.
But with the aid of the D-Box Transparent-Proxy, these disadvantages totally are solved.
As it shows the previous figure, the D-Box must be placed between the user net and the proxy-server. In this configuration the function of the D-Box, is to make that all the HTTP orders that become to Internet, are turned aside to the proxy-server, in automatic form and without the necessity that the users must configure theirs Internet browsers (navigators). In fact the users would not find out that they are passing through the proxy-server. In addition in case that the proxy-server goes down, one only inquires to the D-Box, and this he would let turn aside the orders, with which the users can continue sailing in Internet. The D-Box is compatible with all proxy-caches them that they exist today in the market (SQUID, MS Proxy, etc).
The protocols that it supports are HTTP and FTP.
In addition a minimum configuration exists, where the proxy-server built in the own D-Box, being this ideal configuration for small ISPs or like beginning of application of the system.
